ICC Women's World Cup, 2017 - England Women team are the new champions, India looses final wins hearts

Australia won the ICC Women's world cup winning the final against Indian team by 9 runs in Lord's Cricket Stadium, England. The final turned out to be nail bitter with India's taileneders loosing it to lack of experience in pressure situations.

Earlier in the day, England won the toss and opted to bat first. They had a decent start with their openers batting on a cautious note. However they lost the first wicket on 47 runs with Gayakwad getting better of Winfield. That opened the gate and from 47 for none England soon reduced to 63 for 3. Then experienced Sarah Taylor and Natalie Sciver put on a 83 runs stand before former got out for 45. Indian bowling attack spearhead Jhulan Goswami got Taylor and Frank Wilson on consecutive balls in her comeback spell. Sciver carried on to get her fifty but only to collapse soon on 51 to give Goswami her third wicket. Goswami pulled India back into the contest and with some style. Indian bowlers started getting better of English batters. Brunt and Gunn played handy innings of 34 and 25* respectively down the order to take England's score to 228/7 in 50 overs. Jhulan Goswami was the pick of the Indian bowlers with figures of 3/23 in 10 overs.

Indian team started the chase with the worst start with Mandhana getting out without even opening her account. Mithali Raj and Poonam Raut played with caution not letting the English bowlers to capitalize on the start. Captain got run out on 17 runs with India reaching to 43 runs. Last match's star Harmanpreet then came to the crease and played with confidence she had gained from innings against Australia. Raut and Harmanpreet were building onto a very important partnership. Harmanpreet then got out for well made fifty. Veda who followed her also played well and participated in another crucial partnership with Raut. Raut then got out LBW on Shrubsole's bowling and this sparked the downfall of Indian batting line up. Soon Veda followed and things became tough for Indian batters in the middle. From 193/3 to bundling up for 219 Indian teams fell out to lack of experience. Indian women just fell 9 runs short of the glory and to create history. Shrubsole effected the sudden collapse of the Indian batting line up and her figures of 6/46 won her the player of the match award.

 Indian team missed the chance to get the trophy by a whisker but they suddenly won the hearts with the way they played in the tournament. They had a great start to the tournament winning their first four matches. They had a off days against South Sfrica and Australia in league matches. They then bounced back beating New Zealand in the last league match and making it to the semifinals where they humiliated the defending champions, Australia and sent them back home to make a place in the finals. 
England on the other side lost the first match in the league stage against India but then played to their potential winning all their matches including the finals. This is the 4th time that England ends up being the champions of the Women World Cricket. 
English batter Beaumont was annouced player of the tournament for her 410 runs.

Zimbabwe triumphed over weaker Sri-Lankan side, wins the fifth ODI to win the series

Zimbabwe created history winning an ODI series against Sri-Lanka in their courtyard. They won the fifth and last match to take the series 3-2. It can be eyed as the lowest point for the Sri-Lankan team who had never lost to the bottom ranked teams at home. Zimbabwe won an away series after eight years Zimbabwe won the fifth match against Sri-Lanka by 3 wickets while chasing the target of 204 runs. Srilanka batting first could only manage 203 runs from their 50 overs in the series decider.
